Motivational Tips For Employers By Adam Gottlieb.

One of the challenges of human resource management is knowing how to keep your employees happy within their work environment and motivated to fulfill their job to the best of their ability. This task becomes even more challenging in a situation where money is tight, the job at hand is by nature not stimulating, or the worker is over-qualified for the position.
By following the five motivational tips below, employers can help increase both employee engagement and morale- even under difficult conditions.
1. Employers must recognize the value their workers bring.
The most fundamental part of employee motivation really lies with the attitude of the employer. To the extent that employers can acknowledge that their employees are indispensable assets, and to the extent that employee needs and goals are made a fundamental driver of business decisions, the greater the chance that workers will feel happy and motivated.
2. Employers should encourage and curate employee knowledge, experience, and input within the business.
Many employers make the mistake of assuming that given a good monetary-based compensation package, workers will feel more motivated and be more likely to contribute their all to the business. The truth is, however, that monetary compensation is only one piece of a bigger picture when it comes to employee motivation. In addition to pay, employees want a stimulating position, with some degree of flexibility and the opportunity for advancement. In other words, employees want the work itself to be fulfilling. To cater to these needs, employers should where possible, allow for "cross-training" opportunities (i.e. where the worker learns about a different area or function in the business) and offer employees some sense of ownership in the business, by for example, making them a part of key business decisions- especially those that affect them directly.
3. Promote good communication with employees.
Fostering effective communication is an essential element in maintaining job satisfaction and employee moral, and it can also significantly impact job performance. But many employers make the mistake of thinking that good communication merely involves clearly explaining company policies and procedure. Inherent to this process is also actively offering feedback to employees and soliciting it in return.
4. Encouraging the growth and the development of employees.
There are various ways that business owners can help their employees attain their personal and professional goals. These include providing access to the "cross-training" opportunities mentioned above, additional training programs and seminars that may add value to the employee and/or the business as a whole, opportunities for advancement, and opportunities to affect company policy or procedure.
5. Showing employee appreciation by offering a personal touch.
Showing appreciation of an employee's input does not have to include lavish gifts or expensive company-sponsored trips. To motivate their workers, employers need to get the place of truly appreciating the input their employees make, as mentioned above. Once this is in place, then even small tokens of appreciation, such as handwritten notes, public recognition of achievements, small financial rewards, and even verbal compliments will go along way towards making employees feel valued and their contributions appreciated.
In short, investing in employees' happiness and job satisfaction is the key to being able to motivate them to do their job efficiently and well. By carefully following the motivational tips mentioned above, employers will be on their way towards building a highly capable and willing workforce.
